Which key is right for you?

All keys are genuine Microsoft keys. The differences below decide what you can do later, for example move Windows to a new PC or reinstall Office. Two minutes of reading and you will know exactly which one to pick.

Windows

Retail or OEM: what's the difference?

Both give you the same Windows with exactly the same features. The only difference is what happens when you change your computer.

Retail keyRetail

The full licence. Activate it on one PC; if you replace that PC later, you can move the licence to the new one. The best choice if you plan to upgrade or buy a new computer.

OEM keyOEM

The licence computer makers use for new PCs. It activates one PC and stays with that PC for good, it can't be moved to another computer. That's why it is the cheapest way to get genuine Windows.

Office

How is the Office key activated?

Office keys differ in how you activate them, and that decides how easy it is to reinstall Office later.

Linked to your Microsoft accountAccount-linked

You redeem the key once at Microsoft and it is saved to your Microsoft account. You then download Office from your account page, and can reinstall it there anytime, for example after resetting Windows or on a new PC. The easiest option.

No Microsoft account neededNo account

You install Office and type the key straight into the Office app, no Microsoft account required. Keep it on the PC you activate it on.

Activated by phonePhone activation

You install Office and choose telephone activation: Office shows an installation ID, you enter it in Microsoft's automated phone activation and type in the confirmation ID you get back. Takes a few minutes; it is usually the cheapest option.

PC only or PC + Mac?

For Windows PCPC only

Works on a Windows computer only. Cheaper if you don't use a Mac.

Works on PC or MacPC + Mac

Install it on a Windows PC or on a Mac, useful if you have a Mac or might switch to one. Each key still activates one device.

Bundles

Windows + Office bundles

A bundle is two separate genuine keys in one order, a Windows Retail key and an Office key. You get both at once and pay less than buying the two keys one by one.

Frequently asked questions

Are these genuine Microsoft keys?

Yes. Every key is a genuine Microsoft product key for the edition named on the product page.

How do I get my key?

Keys are delivered digitally: right after payment the key appears on your order page.

Can I use one key on several PCs?

No. Each key activates one device (one server for Windows Server). For more PCs, increase the quantity.

Is it a subscription?

No. Windows and Office keys here are one-time purchases, no monthly fee.

What does "N" mean, e.g. Windows 11 Pro N?

N editions are the same Windows without the built-in media apps (made for Europe). The media apps can be added for free from Microsoft. If you are not sure, choose the normal edition.

What is an Enterprise key?

Enterprise is the business edition of Windows with extra management and security features. For a home or office PC, Pro is the usual choice.
